The 2018 American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is open to all High School Students (grades 9-12) including Home Schooled Students. The student must deliver an original oration on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, of at least 8 minutes but not more than 10 minutes, with emphasis on a citizen's duties and obligations to our government. They also must deliver an oration of at least 3 minutes but not more than 5 minutes on one selected topic of 4 options (2nd Amend., 3rd Amend., 15th Amend. section 1 & 2, or Article 2, Section 4) The school needs to have their one contestant by December 23, 2017. The Post contest will be held on Saturday January 13, 2018 at the Post in Lenoir, NC. The winner will advance to the District Contest, then the Division and then the State Contest. The National Contest will be in Indianapolis, Ind. April 13-15, 2018. National Scholarship are ,000 (first place), ,000 (second place) and ,000 (3rd place). State Scholarship is 00 (1st), 00 (2nd), and 00 (3rd, 4th & 5th).
