Located in southern Caldwell County in Granite Falls, Lakeside Park consist of 72 acres on Lake Rhodhiss with a one-mile trail and a footpath along the shoreline. The main trail is smooth and suitable for mountain bikers and hikers while the foot path can be more strenuous. Three fishing platforms are available for hikers or anglers. Public restrooms and a picnic shelter are available.

Over 7 miles of paved trails are available for walking and biking. The Lenoir Greenway connects to the Caldwell County Library, the Lenoir Aquatic and Fitness Center, and the Lenoir Rotary Soccer Complex. Trail head access and parking is available at the Lenoir Rotary Soccer Complex off Zacks Fork Road, the Caldwell County Public Library off Hospital Avenue, the Powell Road access, and the Sherlee Road access.

Traveling on U.S. 321, it’s hard to tell that there is complete wilderness just miles away. More than 49,000 acres of the Pisgah National Forest is located in Caldwell County. The forest covers land west of U.S. 321 and north of N.C. 18. This section of Pisgah National Forest lies in the Grandfather Ranger District which stretches between Asheville and Blowing Rock and covers Wilson Creek, Brown Mountain Off-Highway Vehicle Area, and Boone Fork Campground. Bordered by Grandfather Mountain on the west, Linville Gorge on the southwest and Brown Mountain on the east, Wilson Creek offers good hunting, fishing, hiking, and whitewater opportunities. The Brown Mountain Beach Off-Highway Vehicle Area provides trails for trail bikes, ATVs, and other four-wheel drive vehicles. The Boone Fork Campground offers group camping, fishing and hiking opportunities.

Located in Hudson, Redwood Park provides two outdoor basketball courts, two tennis courts, one sand volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. The park also provides picnic tables and covered shelters for parties by reservation. Redwood also has three separate playgrounds for children as well as lighted walking and biking trails, nature trails with interpretive trees, and an outdoor amphitheater in the Barton and Estoy Hayes Forest. The McCreary Recreation and Fitness Center and Hudson pool are located at the park. |

Tuttle is a 290-acre forestland managed by the N.C. Division of Forest Resources and the Tuttle Forest Foundation and includes a variety of pines and hardwoods, plus a rolling terrain accessible by a series of trails accented with exhibits and displays which explain the ecology of the forest. Forest rangers conduct classes and guide tours especially created for schoolchildren to learn more about soil, water, wildlife, timber and forest management. Exhibits, the "talking tree" trail, and forest management demonstration areas help visitors learn more about the forest. Public restrooms and a covered picnic shelter are available by reservation. |
