You’ll fall in love with this beautiful area!
When you visit Lenoir & the NC foothills, you can’t help but get inspired by all that Caldwell County has to offer. This county was once part of Burke County and Wilkes County before parts were carved out from them and formed as its own on January 11, 1841. The county was named for Dr. Joseph Caldwell, former President of the University of North Carolina and advocator of a public school system and a railroad system stretching from Morehead City to Tennessee.
In addition to Lenoir, North Carolina, Caldwell County has eight other incorporated municipalities: Hudson, Granite Falls, Gamewell, Cajahs Mountain, Cedar Rock, and Sawmills, as well as parts of Rhodhiss and Blowing Rock. In its rich history, this county has been known for gunpowder manufacturing, grain mills, pottery, mining of gold and iron ore, sawmills, tanneries, furniture factories, and farming. Today the top industries are manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and hospitality.
The elevation diversity from 900 to 5,964 feet in this county creates amazing vistas and ample opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, off-road driving, hunting, horseback riding, kayaking, whitewater rafting, ziplining, mountain bike riding, and much more. There are also plenty of places to visit, including arts and crafts galleries, wineries, breweries, museums, restaurants, and places to shop for furniture and much more.
