It is a very pristine lake commonly enjoyed for boating, fishing, water skiing, and swimming. The lake was formed when Duke Power Company built the Rhodhiss dam in 1925. The lake covers 3,060 acres and has an average depth of 20 feet. Lake Hickory covers 4,223 acres with an average depth of 33 feet and was also created with a dam.
