When you visit Caldwell County in the North Carolina Foothills, you will soon realize that sculpture, art, and music are everywhere. Not only is there a wealth of artists, craftspeople and musicians in our county, but per capita, we have more sculpture than almost any other place in America.

Sculpture Lives Here

Our love and appreciation for this art form runs deep, as we host the nationally recognized annual Sculpture Celebration on the second Saturday in September. You also can tour the county to see over 80 pieces in our permanent sculpture collection. While you are here, be sure to see Across the Grain, the largest work in the collection. Paying homage to the region’s furniture industry, this amazing work was developed by renowned sculptor Thomas Sayre using an earthcasting technique with reinforced concrete that is the color of our native southern red clay. Located just off of Lenoir’s downtown business district, the 26-foot diameter, 40,000 pound piece of hand-crafted art is hard to miss. Then be sure to stroll over to the heart of downtown to see Tuckers Gallery, a showcase of works that are available for sale through the Caldwell Arts Council.

The arts are ingrained in our community, and that makes Caldwell County quite special. We are certain that you will be impressed, and encourage you to visit soon. Offering incredible outdoor recreation opportunities, shopping, family activities, and various accommodations, Caldwell County is the perfect vacation destination, so book your stay today.
