When you Visit Lenoir & the NC Foothills, there are several state parks, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, streams, and other locations where you can get some fishing in, not to mention bait shops and tackle shops to get the supplies you need. To give you an idea of the fishing opportunities in the area, there are 40 lakes, 3,526 rivers and streams, 455 reservoirs, and more than 400 other public locations for fishing. Just be sure to steer clear of private property!

There are many fish species to be found in the area, including white perch, largemouth bass, catfish, smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, and striped bass. If you are looking to gain a nice haul of fish to have a fish fry, a great option is to do some fishing at Lake Rhodhiss. It is known for some huge fish thanks to being semi-cool during most of the year and being home to plenty of bait. Locals are first to tell you that it is the best place for striped bass fishing. You can’t go wrong with fishing at Lake Hickory, Lake Norman, or Lake James either!

To go fishing in the area, you’ll need to obtain a North Carolina fishing license. You can obtain one for a single day or get an annual, 3-year, or lifetime fishing license. You should also be aware of fishing regulations, including daily and size limits on certain fish species.

One word of caution: you’ll find so many outdoor recreation opportunities when you Visit Lenoir & the NC Foothills that you might not want to ever leave!
